About the Museum

MOH-EdentonSt,exteriorThe North Carolina Museum of History sponsors the Longleaf Film Festival and provides administration for festival organizers.

The Division of State History Museums—comprised of, in addition to the Museum of History in downtown Raleigh, Museum of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, Mountain Gateway Museum and Heritage Center in Old Fort, Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex in Fayetteville, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum at Hatteras, Maritime Museum in Beaufort, and Maritime Museum at Southport, as well as the Tobacco Farm Life Museum that will be developed in Kenly—collects and preserves artifacts and other historical materials relating to the history and heritage of North Carolina and interprets those materials in a local, regional, national, and international context to assist people in understanding how the past influences the present. The division interprets history through exhibitions, educational programs, and publications that are available to on-site visitors and through online distance-learning technologies.
