Longleaf 2022: Winners

2022 Longleaf Film Festival award tiles were handcrafted by Andrea Freeman, of Freeman Clayworks

The following films were awarded a ceramic tile, like those pictured above, at the public Awards Ceremony in Daniels Auditorium on Saturday evening, May 14.  The two Judges’ Choice films as well as both new Celebration and Community Productions also received a cash prize.

Durham's Lana Garland is presenting awards at Longleaf Film Festival 2022.Lana has worked as a creative director, a director, and a writer/producer, creating content for such networks as BET, ESPN, and Denmark’s TV2. In documentary film, she has worked on Bowling for Columbine with director Michael Moore, Stolen Moments: Red Hot + Cool (Independent Television Service and PBS), and Unchained Memories: Readings from the Slave Narratives (HBO) with actors Samuel L. Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Don Cheadle, and more. In the realm of short film, her works include Rapture and AfterLife, as well as her ongoing Reservoir Documentary Series, which collects stories of Black people surviving and overcoming different types of trauma. Lana has received the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Award and a filmmaking grant from the Southern Documentary Fund for a project on African American washerwomen; in addition, she is a Fulbright Specialist, having taught film at Makerere University in Uganda. Her company, Insibah Media, is based in Durham and creates documentaries, web series, and marketing videos for the Internet and for broadcast and cable TV.

Lana is also a longtime supporter of Longleaf Film Festival, having shared her talents and expertise in a variety of workshop sessions.

Longleaf Film Festivall 2022 was held at the North Carolina Museum of History Narrative Movie Sets in the American South is a presentation at LFF 2022 state archivist Vann Evans and filmmaker and film historian Marsha Gordon lead this workshop at Longleaf 2022
