Thomas Varnum, an entertainment attorney with Brooks Pierce law firm, will provide an overview of some legal basics indie filmmakers need to consider—including copyright, insurance, distribution, and more—then open up the line for your questions!

 

 


Thomas Varnum leads a legal workshop for Longleaf Film Festival 2021.Thomas Varnum represents individuals and companies who are active in all types of entertainment projects, from film and television to online videos and other media. He regularly works with independent producers and other filmmakers, counseling clients throughout the preproduction, production, postproduction, and distribution process. He has represented and negotiated with production companies, talent scouts, and entertainment lawyers from all over the country, helping to bring creative ideas all the way from inception to the screen. An adjunct professor of entertainment law at Elon University School of Law, he also has a personal interest in film and television and is active in North Carolina’s film industry.
