It’s Been 10 Years: How It Started/How It’s Going, a panel with filmmaker Chris Everett

Saturday, May 11, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Demonstration Gallery (lobby level).

Longleaf launched in May 2015 as one element of the popular museum exhibit Starring North Carolina. Now, looking back at the ten years since, it’s time to think about what has changed, what has remained the same, and what lies ahead for independent filmmaking in North Carolina, and beyond.

Join Chris Everett, artistic director of the Southern Documentary Fund—and Longleaf Film Festival award winner—in a panel of other filmmakers that’s sure to become a lively discussion ranging from the impact and lasting legacy of the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement to how we can use—and guard against—AI in filmmaking to projects that surprised us with their reach?  And So. Much. More.

Filmmaker Chris Everett, whose Wilmington on Fire jumpstarted his career, leads a panel discussion at Longleaf 2024, Year Ten for the film festival in Raleigh NCFilmmaker Chris Everett first came to Longleaf in 2017 with his film Wilmington on Fire and has since served on two Longleaf panels—Black Lives in the Carolinas, 1938–1978 and Wide-Angle Lens—and took part in a special event, FilmExchange.

In addition to the award-winning documentary film Wilmington on Fire, the Durham-based producer and director is the founder and president of Speller Street Films and currently works with Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. He is presently filming his next two documentaries, Wilmington on Fire: Chapter II and Grandmaster, a look at the legacy of martial arts pioneer Vic Moore.
